Robert “Bill” Lynn King, 79, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on August 5, 2025.
Born May 11, 1946, in Durant, Oklahoma, Bill was the son of Edgar King and Addie Zoe Webb, both of whom preceded him in death.
A 1964 graduate of Colbert High School in Oklahoma, Bill went on to serve in the United States Air Force from October 1967 to October 1972. He was honorably discharged after a distinguished military career that included overseas service in Korea, Indochina, and Vietnam, along with time stationed in Germany before eventually settling at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka. Following his military service, Bill was hired at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, where he built a 42-year career as an electrician and ultimately retired as the Head of Energy. He was known for his dedication, expertise, and strong work ethic. Bill was married twice, first to Nina Louise King, and later to Barbara Jo King.
He was preceded in death by his son Terry Keith King
He is survived by his two sons, Rodney King, Emerson King, and by his sisters, Jan Owens and Susie King-Gleim.
He was an avid golfer and a lifelong sports enthusiast—passionate about his Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys. He was a man of quiet strength, sharp wit, and unshakable standards. Stoic, caring, kind, generous, and tough in all the right ways, Bill raised his family with unwavering support and presence. His sons never had to wonder where he was—he was always there, in the stands, cheering them on. Bill had his gruff edges, his high expectations, and his own brand of humor—often quoting the famous line from the A-Team, “I love it when a plan comes together.” Beneath that tough exterior was a fiercely loyal father and a man who expected the best because he believed the people he loved were capable of it.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am Saturday, August 23, at 1st Lutheran Church 1234 SW Fairlawn Rd, followed by a burial with honors at 11am at Memorial Park Cemetery 3616 SW 6th Ave, and there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Woodshed Event Center at 1901 N Kansas Ave.
Bill was cremated per his wishes. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, high standards, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed.
