Robert Albert Kohut, age 89, long-time resident of Newton Falls, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025. Robert was born in Ramey, PA, on May 18, 1936, the son of the late John and Anna (Elko) Kohut.
Robert was valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of Moshannon High School in Madera, Pennsylvania. Robert served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1959 as a Radar Operator and later worked in Administration at Blaine AFB in the state of Washington in the Birch Bay area. While in the Air Force, he met his wife, Stefne Zawada, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They were married on July 6, 1957. They eventually moved to Newton Falls, where they raised their 5 children. Robert graduated from the Human Engineering Institute in Niles, Ohio, with certification in the Electrical Maintenance Program. Robert retired from Copperweld Steel Mill in Warren, Ohio, where he was employed as an electrician/motor inspector in the Electrical Department.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding motorcycles. He always loved finding good deals at local garage sales and flea markets. He often tinkered with his finds (sweepers, radios, TVs), restoring them to working condition. Robert was musically gifted, with his favorite instruments being the accordion and harmonica.
Robert is survived by his wife, Stefne, and children, Tami (Russell) Blackiston, Robert (Diane) Kohut, Gary (Barb) Kohut, John (Annette) Kohut, and daughter-in-law, Maryna Kohut. Robert had 9 grandchildren: Corey, Tyler, and Spenser (Zoe) Blackiston, Josh and Trisha Kohut, Matthew Kohut, Bradyn and Bella Kohut, and William Kohut.
Robert was preceded in death by his eldest son, Tim Kohut. Also preceding Robert in death were 3 sisters: Anne Hansel, Helen Surick, and Margaret Bednarcik, and 7 brothers: John, Joseph, George, Walter, Ed, Mike, and Paul Kohut.
A private graveside service will be held with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
