Robert Leroy Kula

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Leroy Kula, much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully at his home in Fort Morgan, Colorado, on January 3, 2026.

Born on November 13, 1929, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, Robert was the son of Joseph Kula and Sylva (Biddle) Kula. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Joanne Kula; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dean Hyatt; and his grandson, Thomas Lanman.

His legacy continues through his devoted wife of 74 years, Shirley (Doty) Kula, and their children: Vicky Higgins (Lexis), Linda Kula (Jack), Cheryl Kula (Jim), and Barbara Bell (Scott). Robert was grandfather to Nathan Janos (Alexandra), Benjamin Janos (Lindsay), Abby Birch (Terrence), Zoe Rusch, Ivy Kula Kreidler, Asa Carpenter (Kelly), Lee Carpenter (Lacey), and Spencer Lanman.

He also had the joy of watching his family grow and is survived by his great-grandchildren: Celeste, Simone and Max Janotto, János and Lola Folker; Tao Birch; Iola and Jack Rusch; Xander and Korben Carpenter; Brody and Shelby Frye; and Khloe Carpenter.

Robert is also survived by two nephews, Randy and Lynn Kula; and many members of the Doty family, all of whom he held dear.

Robert was a hardworking man whose life revolved around his family and community. He was the proud owner of Kula Grain Company and dedicated many years to farming, instilling a strong work ethic in his children.

His commitment to his community was evident through his active membership at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church, where he also served as a school board member and a library board member, contributing to the growth and development of education in his community.

An avid hunter and fly fisherman, Robert found joy in the great outdoors. He treasured time spent in nature, casting lines, sharing stories, and playing cribbage with family and friends. His passion for these hobbies reflected his zest for life and the simple pleasures that brought him happiness.

Details regarding a memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be announced at a later date. Where family and friends can gather to honor his life and legacy.

Robert will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love and the values he instilled will live on in the hearts of his family and all those he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
