Robert A. LaBrie, 86, of Whitinsville and formerly of New York State passed away Saturday January 27, 2024 in UMass/Memorial Medical Ctr., Worcester with his family by his side. He was the husband of Evelyn A. (Nedoroscik) LaBrie for 34 years.
He was born in
Hudson, NY, son of the late Edwin and Gertrude (Pulver) Edwin and was raised in
Stuyvesant, NY. He spent his youth enjoying all the experiences of living near the Hudson River and the small-town charm of everyone knowing one another and watching out for each other. He would tell stories of a happy childhood, and depict a time in this world where the simple adventures of childhood created lifelong friendships and memories.
Bob graduated from Kinderhook CSD and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He spent many years living in
Stuyvesant, NY raising his four children, being involved in town politics and serving as Town Supervisor for two terms. He had a special love for his German Shorthair Pointer Dogs. Taking them hunting was a skill and hobby he was very proud of, and one he reminisced about often. Bob had a special love and connection to his hometown, and every visit back home to see his children and grandchildren, he would drive around his old stomping grounds to take trips down memory lane.
Though he left NY in 1981, he loved his children and grandchildren dearly and was very proud of them all. He celebrated every birthday, dinners, outings, holidays, graduations, attended every wedding and welcomed all his grandchildren and great grands with love.
Bob worked most of his life in the beverage business making many business associates longtime friends and had been employed with Canada Dry and other beverage companies until he retired from United Citrus in
Norwood, MA in 2011.
In 1999 he was the recipient of a liver transplant and was blessed with many years of wonderful life and was able to see his children grow up, marry and have children of their own.
He was a member of Whitinsville Golf Club since 1982. It was his passion for many years, along with hunting fishing, boating, vacations in St. Thomas and the islands, a few cruises to the other Caribbean Islands and the Mediterranean. His all-time favorite place was
Newport, RI.
He was a member of Calvary Worship Center Holden, MA. He loved and served the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with many in the congregation. He was a very compassionate man and seemed to gravitate toward the friends that needed a helping hand.
In addition to his wife Evelyn, he is survived by his children, Scott LaBrie (Late Caren Stewart), Terri LaBrie, Lisa LaBrie (Chuck Shattenkirk), Robert LaBrie, Jr. (Gretchen) and Pamela Goben (Michael); his grandchildren, Erin Graham-Shook (Daniel), Emily Kipp (Garrett), Lucas Graham, Kate Maresca, Ben Graham, Brooke LaBrie, Matthew LaBrie, Timothy Goben, Jill Goben, Holly Goben, Leah Goben, his dearly loved great grandchildren, Rosie Kipp and Sonny Shook and nieces and nephews.
