Robert Allen "Bud" Laws, 90, of Westport, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was born on November 1, 1935, in Ingalls, Indiana the son of John Arthur and Agnes Gertrude (Harmeson) Laws. He was a 1953 graduate of Fortville High School and has lived in the Westport area since 1953. Bud was a man of many talents. He drilled water and gas wells with his father. He started working in 1956 at Pohlman Hardware as a farm mechanic and later managed Letts Hardware until his retirement. He was a member of the Westport Masonic Lodge #52 F. & A.M. since 1980 and a member of the former Letts Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, fishing and 20+ years wintering in Arcadia, Florida. Bud married Mary Helen Gault on April 23, 1955, at the Letts Methodist Church and had celebrated their 70th anniversary. She survives along with his daughters, Cheryl Lynn (Mark) Asher of Westport and Cynthia Lou (David) Wilkerson of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Lisa Ann Laws of Crestwood, Kentucky; a sister, Joy Ann Johnson of Ingalls; nine grandchildren, April (Matt) Meier, Kristi Asher, Natalie (Steve) Robison, Nicholas (Abby) Asher, Benjamin (Allison) Wilkerson, Taylor (Katelyn) Wilkerson, Erika (Luke) Banta, Olivia C. Laws and Spencer A. Laws; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard Allen Laws and his sister, Delma Jean Beckham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Glenn Black officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur County Community Foundation through the funeral home.
