Doris Laws Obituary

Doris Wynette Laws, 82, of Waynesboro, PA, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Quincy Home. Born December 27, 1943 in Kibler Valley, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William G. (Jim) and Mabel L. (Wilson) Bowman.

She is survived by her loving husband, Pal A. Laws, married for 58 years, 7 months; her daughter, Sherry (and husband, Bernie) Pierce of Lincoln, NE; son, Dan (and wife, Jenn) Laws of Etters, PA; her grandchildren, Nathaniel, Joshua, Timothy, Daniel, Cara, Lynsi, Eden, Jacob, Levi, Isaac, Elijah, Kinslee, Josiah and Alexis; sister, Diona (and husband, Carlos) Goad; dear sisters-in-law; many nephews and nieces she dearly loved; and a host of friends who were touched by her life.

Wynette trusted Christ as her Savior as a young teen at New Life Camp in Raleigh, N.C. Loving and serving Christ and other people was a thread throughout her life. After college and having children, she worked several jobs, from the business office at Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells, N.J., to a hospital job to teaching high school at Wake Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C., to substitute teaching at Cumberland Valley Christian School in Chambersburg to customer service at J.C.Penney in Chambersburg. Her most known role, however, was a camp missionary, both with New Life Camp and Camp Joy-El in Greencastle where she played different roles, including teaching in chapels at Shalom Christian Academy. Her biggest passion in ministry was the Bible Released-Time program and taught until she could not, then serving as a listener for as long as she was able. Working one-on-one with children was a great joy in her life, and she thrived on sharing the love of Jesus and the opportunity to know Him with children and adults alike. She helped meet felt needs, fed many friends and strangers, loved spending time with her family, loved laughing at the antics of or having deep conversations with her grandsons, and delivered food to shut-ins and those with great need until she couldn't.

Wynette was friendly, spunky, tenacious and had a great sense of humor. She didn't know a stranger and would run into people she knew everywhere, even on road trips. She could lead or assist humbly, and she was a fierce prayer warrior. She will be missed, but those who love her are grateful she is no longer shackled by besetting dementia that marked her last years. She is now better than she has ever been, reunited with her Lord and Savior.

Besides her parents, Wynette was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth V. Bowman, Donald W. Bowman, David W. Bowman, Hassel B. Bowman, B. Reavis Bowman and Carl E. (Gene) Bowman; sister, Linda I. Bowman; and nephews, Cory T. Goad and Donald Bowman, Jr.

We will have a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenvillage Church of God, 5146 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg,  PA 17202, with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating. Wynette requested long ago that friends wear bright colors [as you are comfortable] since we grieve with hope and the joy of knowing she is happily with Jesus. A light luncheon will be served where friends can greet the family.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made to Camp Joy El for the Bible Released-Time program, now called Bible Adventure at 3741 Joy El Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225 or online at https://joyelcamps.org/donate/bible-adventure-cia/   or New Life Camp, 9927 Falls of Neuse Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614 or online at  https://give.newlifecamp.com/campaign/748080/donate.
