Robert A LeBlanc, 67, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, June 10, 2024.
He was born in Westbrook on June 17, 1956, the son of Joseph W & Lorraine (Richard)
LeBlanc. Bob graduated from Westbrook High School in 1974 and the University of Southern
Maine in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Bob was the first one in his
family to graduate from college, for which both his parents were so proud.
Bob began employment in his youth, babysitting for his neighbors and many cousins. He
worked for many companies over the years; Wendy's as a manager, Red Coach Grill as a
waiter, Carter Brothers Jewelry as a jeweler, Day's Jewelers as a certified gemologist, and his
last job for UNUM as a long-term disability specialist. He retired from UNUM in 2022 and loved
his newfound freedom of not working.
Bob loved to travel with friends and family. He drove cross-country from Westbrook to California
in 1984. Along the way he spent time at the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park,
and Las Vegas. He also traveled to Florida, Virginia, and Washington DC. He went overseas to
England and Scotland. He went on many cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He loved
spending time in New York City with his long-time partner, Gabriel Chasse.
Bob loved amusement and theme parks. He spent time in Disneyland, Walt Disney World,
Universal Studios, Dollywood, Hershey Park, Busch Gardens, and Six Flags. He never met a
roller coaster he didn't like.
Bob loved teaching anyone and everyone about art, history, movies, and literature. He enjoyed
visiting museums and Historic Homes. He was always able to elaborate on the tour as
sometimes he knew more about the site than the tour guide.
Bob's love of reading started at an early age. He created the Rockcliffe School and Library
where his sisters would be required to take out his books and read them during the summer
school vacations. He also collected Stephen King novels and met him several times at book
signings. Some of Bob's copies have personal notes from Stephen to Bob.
Movies were a passion with Bob. He would go to the theaters as often as possible during his
childhood and continued to go to the movie theaters throughout his life when a movie was worth
seeing on the big screen. Most movies he would simply wait for the DVD to come out and buy a
copy to add to his huge collection.
Bob was a lover of all games, whether board games, cards, movies or TV trivia. His favorite
card game was Pennies from Heaven, and he was a very skilled player.
Bob loved cinematic arts and theater. He often watched the annual Academy Awards and
collected Broadway showtunes. His collections of movies, books, and music were enormous.
Bob was an avid adventurer and explored Maine and New England extensively. His favorite
spots were Acadia National Park, Fort Williams Park, Range Pond State Park, and of course,
Forest Lake where he spent his childhood summers.
Bob suffered a stroke while recovering from heart surgery in 2017. He was paralyzed on his left
side and was unable to speak. After many weeks of rehabilitation, and the devoted care from
his long-time partner Gabriel, he recovered with only a slight limp in his gait. A truly remarkable
recovery.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lorraine LeBlanc. He is survived by his
long-time partner Gabriel Chasse; his sisters, Denise Francoeur, Louise Thibeault (spouse
Brian), Tina LeBlanc (spouse Denise Tanguay); his nephew Andre' Davis; his great nephews
and niece, Kyle Hanson, Dominic Davis, Riley Davis, Caitlin Steele; and his many extended
relatives.
A burial will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10am in St Hyacinth Cemetery in
Westbrook.
