HUBERT - Robert Bruno Leblanc, 90, of Hubert,passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. Mildred Catholic Church with Rev. Dave Miller officiating. Burial, military honors, will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Mr. Leblanc was born on July 31,1934 in Waterbury, CT, to the late Albert Henry and Yvonne Deschaise Leblanc. He was an affectionate father, a proud veteran, a loyal friend, a devoted brother, and a loving husband to his recently departed wife. A student of dessert, he was known to request "a sliver of each" sweet available at a holiday meal. He will be greatly missed.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 27 years, earning numerous commendations including the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame and the Naval Achievement Medal with Combat V. He shared his wife's love of music, playing the trumpet and joining the Drum and Bugle Corp early in his military career. He was a faithful and active member of St. Mildred Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus in which he previously served both as Grand Knight and District Deputy. Robert was an avid chess player participating in area chess clubs and tournaments. He was deeply involved in his children's activities including being an award-winning scout leader and long-time referee for the youth soccer league.
He is survived by children, Mark Leblanc of Hubert, Elaine Rahiminejad of Wilmington, Wayne Leblanc of Lewisburg, WV, Katherine Stewart of Savannah, GA, Joseph Leblanc of Wilmington, and Frances Wallace of Cumming, GA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Laura Andrews Leblanc as well as his three sisters Giselle Leblanc Depeault, Jeannine Leblanc Gagnon, and Mary Alice Leblanc.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 3-5pm at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St Mildred Church Building Fund, the US Chess Federation military chess at https://new.uschess.org or at-risk youth campaign.
