Robert James Leno

Robert "Bob" Leno, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 8, 2025, in Newport, Rhode Island. Born on August 16, 1943, in Hardwick, Vermont, Bob lived a full life marked by determination, hard work, and deep love for his family.

Bob's education began in local schools in Vermont, but it was his career that showcased his formidable skills and dedication. After proudly serving as a Ship Fitter in the United States Navy and being honorably discharged in 1967, Bob embarked on a journey that culminated in a successful career at Newport Ship Yard. In 1985, he co-founded B&B Welding with his partner Bob Hughes, a venture that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and technical expertise. Bob was also proud of his involvement with Australia II during the groundbreaking 1983 America’s Cup race, where the Australian team made history, claiming the cup after a remarkable 132-year American dominance.

Throughout his life, Bob remained deeply rooted in his family values. He is survived by his cherished wife, Emily Leno, along with their children: Ann Johannsen, Robert Leno, Joseph Leno, and Sharon George, who is married to Hans Bogaars. He is also remembered fondly by his siblings, including sister Dorothy Lemieux and her husband Edward, and brother Donald Leno and his wife Patricia. Bob's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Daniel Labrecque, Taran Leno, Eric Leno, Tyler Leno, Kaitlyn Leno, James George (Selenia), Christopher George (Maria), Taylor George, and Sage Bogaars. He also leaves behind his adoring great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were an essential part of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hazel Leno; his son, McKenzie Leno, grandson Jacob Leno; and his sisters Florence Leno, Marie Kennedy, Margaret Lemieux, Arlene Levesque, and Shirley Trevett, as well as his brother Joseph Leno.

Bob's warmth, kindness, and indomitable spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to family that will be cherished for generations to come.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a future date.
