Garden City- Robert died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, April 10, 2025, with his family and his cat Shasta laying by his side. Robert Clifton Lewis was born in Corpus Christie, Texas on October 10, 1936 to James Clifton and Margaret (Williams) Lewis. Robert was baptized in Morgan Avenue Baptist Church in Corpus Christie, Texas. After high school, in 1958 Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force where he trained as a radar technician at Kessler Air Force Base, Mississippi and was stationed at a radar site at Continental Divide, New Mexico.
After his discharge he was employed at White Sands, New Mexico testing guided missiles, then at Project Mercury in Corpus Christie, Texas. There he tracked John Glenn and other astronauts in Earth Orbit. He was later employed at several gas pipeline companies as a Communications Technician. In 1977 he was managing partner at four Sonic Drive-Ins in Colorado. In 1980 he moved to Garden City where he was employed at Snyder Motorola Radio until he retired in 2002.
After retiring he was an American Red Cross- National Reserve Relief Manager completing more than 50 relief operations over a seven year period. He also volunteered at St Catherine Hospital as a Surgery Waiting Room attendant. He and Doris enjoyed their winter trips to Port Aransas, Texas. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City.
He is survived by his Wife of over 40 years- Doris Kay Lewis, his only child, Daughter- Robin Casady (Keith Berry) of Garden City, 3 Step-Sons- James Chandler (Nora) of Raytown, Missouri, Darrin Chandler (Susan) of Sabetha and Gary Chandler (Mary) of Holcomb, 12 Grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Brother- J. P. Lewis.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City with Rev Michael Hageman officiating. A private interment will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St Catherine Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
