Robert LeRoy Longazo, 89, of
Cedar City, Utah peacefully passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born February 6, 1936 in
Los Angeles, California to John P. and N. Lucille (nee Bowen) Longazo. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1959 as an Airman, during which time he met the love of his life, Rose Marie. They were married for 69 years.
He never knew his father, as his father passed just 23 days after he was born. He and his older brother were raised by his mother and grandmother. His mother's lineage is a pioneer heritage with family members that crossed the plains and settled in the Salt Lake Valley. His father's lineage comes from what is now Western Ukraine. His father passed at an early age from pneumonia, due to bad lungs likely from
over exposure in the coal mines.
His life-long work included 35 years of service as an aerospace engineer with North American Aviation, Rockwell International, and Boeing. Major projects included designing various parts for Apollo, the B-1
Bomber, the Space Shuttle, and the Delta IV Rocket.
He was a devoted and life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. One of his favorite callings was serving as a Stake Missionary with his best friend and future son-in-law Benjamin R. Fuller in Huntington Beach, California. Here he was ordained a Seventy on September 30, 1973, and served as one of the Seven Presidents of the Seventy for the stake. Later, on November 2, 1993, he was ordained a
High Priest.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie (nee Williams) Longazo; six children: Debbie L. Fuller of Cedar City, Linda M. (Ralph D.) Hernandez of Redding, California, R. Michael Longazo of Corona, California, Ronald R. (Debra A.) Longazo of Corona, California, Teresa G. (Martin W.) Jiles of Trinidad, Colorado, and Steven J. (Taralyn) Longazo of North Salt Lake. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, older brother, John R. Longazo, his daughter, Pamela A. Longazo, and son-in-law and best friend, Benjamin R. Fuller.
Funeral services will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West,
Cedar City, Utah on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, beginning at 1:00 pm. Viewing will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary in
Cedar City, UT on Saturday morning, January 3rd, 2026, from 12 to 1 pm. Interment will be at the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be made at www.mortuary.org.
