Robert "Skip" Lumpkins, 81, of Ruffin, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Mayfield Baptist Church with Pastor Chris McGee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00–7:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Connie, 1300 Mayfield Road.
Skip was born in Danville, VA, to the late John David Lumpkins and Lillian East Lumpkins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Brenda Mundy Lumpkins and sister Janet Justice.
Skip was a faithful member of Mayfield Baptist Church, where he was always active. Church wasn’t just a part of his life—it was his life. He dedicated himself to serving the Lord and his church family in any way he could. As head deacon, he took his role to heart, and over the years, he also served in several other positions, including treasurer. Whether it was strengthening the people around him or working on the physical building itself, he poured his time and energy into the church. Other than his family, nothing was more important to him than being there and serving. If the church doors were open, you could count on him being inside.
Skip had a heart for people, especially those others might have overlooked. He never hesitated to lend a hand or offer help when it was needed most. Above all, he loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished his time with his grandchildren, especially when he was able to take them fishing. Those moments meant the world to him, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
Skip is survived by his daughter, Connie Strader of Ruffin; grandchildren, Brianna Brown and husband, Holden, and Ethan Strader and wife, Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren, Grayden Brown and Gunnar Brown, Josie Kait Strader, and “Baby Boy” Strader. He is also survived by his brother, John “Junior” Lumpkins and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the Penn Center Nursing Staff and Ancora Compassionate Care for their wonderful dedication, kindness, and compassion during this time.
