Robert passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the evening of June 19, 2025, just as the sun was setting over the horizon. Robert was born on April 5, 1941, in Haynesville, LA, to Edward Clegg Malone and Ruby Orlean Burton. He rose from humble beginnings as a young boy growing up in Webster Parish, eventually graduating from Bossier High School as his family relocated often during his formative years.
Robert went on to marry the love of his life, Rudell "Dell" Malone, with whom he would celebrate 53 wonderful years together before her passing in 2015. Together, they raised their family in Shreveport and then eventually relocated to Stonewall to enjoy a more country lifestyle in DeSoto Parish. In 2004, Robert retired after 30 years of dedicated service at Libbey Glass in Shreveport, where he earned numerous awards and rarely missed a day of work in those three decades. While his work ethic was truly unmatched and a trait his family deeply admired in him, "Pops" (as he was affectionately called) was better known by everyone who knew him for having a fun-loving personality and a clever sense of humor that was characterized by his quick wit and savvy punchlines. He never lost that, even in his final days of life with us.
He was a kind man who enjoyed the simple things in life by spending his time behind a lawnmower after a long day's work, tending to the family garden or just taking time to enjoy nature and the great outdoors after his health would no longer allow for gardening. He could also often be found in front of the TV watching just about any sport in season but especially wrestling and football while rooting on his beloved Dallas Cowboys and LSU Tigers. Above all, he valued the faith and family that defined his life by never missing out on special holiday and birthday celebrations.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Ed Malone; mother, Ruby Miller; wife, Dell Malone; and sisters, Mary Frances Whitten and Shirley Malone.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Shelia Malone; sons, Michael Malone and wife, Melissa, and Robert Glen Malone; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved furry companion, Rudy.
Honoring Robert as pallbearers will be Matt Hemingway, Johnathan Hemingway, Nathan Malone, Michael Beers, Matt Spearman and Michael Flores. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dale Sirman and Jimmy Wright, both brothers-in-law whose company he greatly enjoyed.
Robert's family would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at WK Pierremont ICU and the 7th Floor Step-Down Unit, St. Joseph Hospice and the Carpenter House for the attentive care they so graciously provided to him as his earthly journey ended.
