Robert S. "Bob" Maltarich

Robert "Bob" S Maltarich, 78, a devoted husband, father, coach, and community leader, went to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, December 16, 2025. A lifelong resident of Ohio, Bob was a cherished member of the West Holmes community, where his influence touched generations of students, athletes, and neighbors.

Bob was born January 10, 1947, in East Liverpool, Ohio and was the son of William and Clara (Hall) Maltarich. Bob dedicated much of his life to education and athletics, most notably serving as head football coach at West Holmes High School for 17 seasons. Known for his discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to developing young men both on and off the field, Bob earned deep respect not only for his success as a coach, but for the values he instilled in his players. His leadership helped shape the culture of West Holmes athletics, and his impact continues to resonate throughout the program and the community.

Beyond the game, at the heart of Bob's life was his extraordinary love for his wife, Mary Lou. Married for 56 years, they shared a rare and beautiful bond built on friendship, devotion, and deep respect. They were truly best friends-rarely apart, always supporting one another, and fully devoted to their family. Together, they created a home filled with love, and laughter, and theirs was the kind of special love that leaves a lasting example for generations to follow.

Bob was a family man at heart. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, serving as a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and love. He believed deeply in hard work, accountability, and loyalty-principles he lived by every day and passed on to those around him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Lou; his three children, Crystal Agar and her husband Alan, Kevin Maltarich and his wife Carrie, and Kathy Fair and her husband Mike; nine grandchildren-Kelsey Agar, Michael Agar, Bailey Reese, Kaili Maltarich, Kyle Maltarich, Cooper Maltarich, Melanie Fair, Nealie Fair, and Nate Fair; and one great-grandchild, Grady Agar. He was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him home.

A private celebration of Bob's life will be held with family. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the lessons he passed down-lessons that extended far beyond the game of football.
