Robert Lamar (Bob) Manley, Jr. (84) of Loganville, GA went to his heavenly home on August 11. The son of the late Robert Lamar (Buck) Manley and the late Edna Ashburn Manley. His sister, Amy Manley Thompson predeceased him. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Ginny) Jones Manley, beloved children, son Colonel Robert (Rob) Lamar Manley III (Amanda) of Henry Virginia and Lisa Manley Maynard (Randy) of Saginaw, Texas. Grandchildren, Owen Manley, and Addison Manley of VA, Rebekah (Brad) Baker, of Michigan, Jon Maynard (Melody)and David Maynard (Alex) of TX. and two great grand children in Texas. He is also survived by four stepchildren to whom he was a second father. Cathy Thompson Brown (Wen), children Brenna Heavern Brantly (Taylor), Marlee Heavern, Sally Thompson Logan (Roger), children Christine Vick (Andrew) and Davis Logan (Libbie), Chip Thompson (Stacey), children Alex Thompson and Charis Gwinn (Ethan), Rob Thompson (Tracy), children Derek Thompson, Hope Thompson and Andrew Thompson, all of Smithfield, KY, and six great grandchildren, and many cousins.
Bob grew up primarily in Sandy Springs, GA, he graduated from North Fulton High School and attended the University of Georgia, then he joined the Army and became an Airborne Ranger, Special Forces, during the Vietnam War era. After serving the Army, Bob graduated from Oglethorpe in Atlanta.
He followed in his father's footsteps and became a very successful manufacturer's rep in the foodservice equipment industry for many years. In 1988, Bob and Ginny decided to publish a trade magazine for food service equipment in the seven southeastern states called Trade Talk. Trade Talk was their pride and joy until they retired in 2009.
He was a wonderful husband and father. Bob adored his Brady Bunch family and his many friends.He was genuinely loved by everyone who knew him. He was very active in his church, especially with mission projects. He served the Lord well for many years in so many capacities. Bob was a sportsman, hunter, highly skilled pool player, barbecue master, and avid Georgia Bulldog fan! He loved his Dawgs. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him!
The funeral service will be at Grayson United Methodist Church on Saturday August 17th at 11:00 a.m.. Visitation at 10:00 a.m.
