Robert Vincent Marchetti, 82, of Eva Drive, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, losing a long and hard-fought battle against the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Bob was born in 1941, the second of four children to Viola & Enrico “Digger” Marchetti, lifelong residents of the beloved Italian neighborhood that is Lincoln Terrace in Leominster. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Worcester Junior College and worked for IBM for 42 wonderful years. In 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Louise McHugh, and together they raised four children.
Bob knew his way around a toolbox and there wasn’t a thing he couldn’t fix. He was a lifetime member of the Leominster Sportsmen's Association and could be found almost every day of his retirement years having his morning coffee with his cronies there. He was happiest in a tree stand with a deer in his scope, or lakeside with a fishing pole and tackle box in hand. He helped to rebuild Rice Meadow Fly Fishing Club where he was also a proud member.
Bob is survived by Mary Lou, his wife of 59 years, his children Kara (Matthew) Gallagher of Simsbury, CT, Lynn (Derek) DeLorenzo of Littleton, Rob (Carrie) Marchetti of Ashland, and Brian (Jess) Marchetti of Leominster; and the grandchildren who put the twinkle in his eye: Kaleigh, Corey, and Kevin Gallagher, Caroline, Megan, and Alexander DeLorenzo, Madison and John Marchetti, and Nina, Alana, Benjamin, and Vincent Marchetti. Bob is also survived by his sisters Ginny (Peter) Valeri and Shirley Smith, sister-in-law Ann Marchetti, and countless loving nieces and nephews. Bob is predeceased by his brother Benny and brother-in-law Paul Smith.
A visitation will be held at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road in Fitchburg, on Sunday, November 10 from 3 - 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held in St. Leo’s Church, 108 Main Street in Leominster, on Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial in St. Leo Cemetery will be private.
