Robert W. "Bob" Mathiesen

June 3, 1938 - December 25, 2024

Robert W. "Bob" Mathiesen, age 86, of Council Bluffs, passed away December 25, 2024, at CHI-Mercy Hospital. Bob was born June 3, 1938, in Council Bluffs to the late Detlef and Margaret (Nagel) Mathiesen. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956. Bob married Marlys Marlene Wolfe on March 26, 1960. They were blessed with 2 children. Bob retired in 2000 from the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 45 years. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marlene Mathiesen; daughter, Tammy (Todd) Grimm; son, Mark Mathiesen all of Council Bluffs; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Sara Jorgensen of Huron, SD; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service, Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with a lunch following at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. Visitation with the family one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will direct memorial contributions.
