Steven Edgar Mathiesen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on May 12, 1944, in Odense, Denmark, Steve was the cherished son of Edith Godine Pedersen and Axel Mathiesen.
Steve spent over 30 years as a dedicated General Operator at Kennecott, where he was known for his work ethic, reliability, and calm presence behind the wheel. He brought the same quiet strength and care to his personal life-always gentle, kind, and soft spoken.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Karen Curtis, affectionately known as "KC," whom he married on October 22, 2008. Together, they shared a deep, romantic companionship for twenty-one years, joyfully playing "Kissy Face" and making lasting memories with their cherished dogs, Bruno, Sofee, and Bebee.
Steve was the proud father of seven children: Troye Dean, Rochelle Blood, Stacey Dean, Krystal Mathiesen Kelly, Kirk Mathiesen, Amber Mathiesen Phillips, and Heather Mathiesen. His legacy lives on through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was brother to Lone Stephens, Judy Warner, Paul Mathiesen, and Ron Mathiesen.
In retirement, Steve enjoyed the peace and beauty of Sandy, Utah. He spent his days golfing, playing cards with friends, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. His quiet humor, warmth, and easy smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, Utah. All who knew and loved Steve are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
