Robert May Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bussell Family Funerals - Carmel on Feb. 26, 2026.
Robert "Bob" Lee May, 90, was taken to his heavenly home to meet his Saviour on February 25, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bob a former resident of Chillicothe and Kingston, was born on June 27, 1935, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the oldest child of the late Leroy "Bud" and Letha "Bea" May.

Bob graduated from Laurelville High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, he eloped to Indiana to marry his high school sweetheart, Loretta (Stump) May. Bob and Loretta were married for nearly 65 years. and are the parents to Carol (Jim) Stewart, Galloway, Ohio; Randy May, Pikeville, Tennessee; and Brian (Melanie) May, Cicero, Indiana.

Bob served as a radio operator for the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed at the 38th parallel in South Korea and in Okinawa, Japan. After returning from the war, Bob worked for DuPont and the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 1992.

Bob enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, gunsmithing, and mowing. All his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will cherish the piggy banks, made from old combination style US Post Office mailboxes, he gave each of them.

In 2016, Bob was part of the Indiana Honor Flight and went to Washington, D.C. to visit the monuments. Bob was one of the founding members of Faith Chapel in Chillicothe, and we know that he is now resting in the kingdom of Heaven. "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'" Galatians 5:13-14.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta in 2020; nephew, Steve McNichol, and grandson, Tyler May.

Survivors include his children, Carol (Jim) Stewart, Galloway, Ohio, Randy May, Pikeville, Tennessee, and Brian (Melanie) May, Cicero, Indiana; grandchildren, Jennifer Pollard, Kelli (Mike) Baker, Brent Barton, Rob (Cari) May, Julia (Matthew) May-Perkins; and great-grandchildren, Katherine Pollard; Amelia, William, Audrey, and Bennett Baker; Grant, Gray, and Shiloh Perkins; sisters, JoAnn Meade and Anna (Bill) Smith; and brother-in-law, Melvin (Edna) McNichol.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 5-7 pm in Hill Funeral Home, Kingston, Ohio, where the Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, March 5 at 11 am.

Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi, Ohio.
