Robert E. Mayo Jr. also fondly known as "Pa", passed away on March 4, 2023 at his home in Kingston, NH after a period of declining health. He was born January 29, 1939 in Lewiston, ME, son of the late Robert E. Mayo Sr. and Bertha (Riley) Mayo.
Robert grew up in Plaistow, NH and was one of nine children in his family. In 1956, he enlisted into the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Carlene Post on July 10, 1958. They lived in Albuquerque, NM while Robert was stationed there. After his honorable discharge from the service, they returned to Plaistow, NH to raise their family in their hometown. Pa was a longtime well known and respected carpenter in the southern NH area for many years. Later, when he was in his sixties, he was a beloved custodian at the Pollard School in Plaistow for several years. Pa and Carlene "Ya-Ya" were longtime residents in Danville, NH before moving last year to Kingston, NH.
Pa was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He and Ya-Ya spent many days at their daughter's property called Camp Johnson on the Bear Camp River in West Ossipee, NH. In addition, Pa loved hiking with his brother-in-law Charlie who Pa and Ya-Ya cared for devotedly. Pa also enjoyed taking trips to Aruba, making honey, making wine, vegetable gardening and playing horseshoes. He had a great love for His Lord and Savior and was a current member of Rock Church in Plaistow.
He was predeceased by his son, James Douglas Mayo "Jamie", his twin brothers, Ralph and George Mayo, and sister, Elizabeth Senter.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carlene Mayo, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Johnson and Gardner, daughter and son-in-law, Suzy Johnson and Thomas, son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Mayo III and Deborah, 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Bertha Horsch, Josephine DeSerres, Carol LaPorte, 2 brothers, William Mayo, Charles Mayo and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 12:30-2:30 PM at the Danville Community Center, 169 Main St., Danville, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Rockingham VNA & Hospice, 137 Epping Rd., Exeter, NH 03833.
