Robert McCarthy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Somers Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.
Robert J. McCarthy, 72, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Evergreen Healthcare. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on February 20, 1954, he was the loving son of the late David and Grace (Cullen) McCarthy. Robert grew up in Longmeadow, MA, where he attended local schools and resided for much of his adult life before moving to Enfield seven years ago following his retirement.

A man of remarkable dedication, Robert enjoyed a long and distinguished career with Amtrak, serving as a lineman for 42 years. He was well-regarded by his colleagues for his strong work ethic and his commitment to his craft throughout his many decades of service. Outside of work, Robert found his greatest joy in the company of family and friends. He was an avid card player who never turned down a good game of cribbage or a chance to share a laugh with those he loved.

Robert is survived by his son, Todd McCarthy and his wife Patricia of Somers; his brother, Joseph McCarthy and his wife Helen; and his sister, Mary Jean. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, William and Teagan McCarthy, as well as his former spouse, Deborah Hotchkiss. Robert was predeceased by his parents and his brother, David McCarthy. He will be remembered as a hardworking professional and a devoted family man.

A celebration of life will be held at the Knights of Columbus in Somers at a later date.
