Robert M. McDonald, 83, of Ortonville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025. Born and raised in Detroit, Robert moved to Troy in 1972 to raise his family, and for the past 29 years made his home in Ortonville.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Antoinette. Married for 54 years, Robert and Antoinette shared a full life.
Robert was a hardworking man whose career reflected his determination and entrepreneurial spirit. He began working at a gas station at the age of 14, later joined Great Lakes Meat Packing Co., and eventually started his own business, McDonald's Meats. After selling the business, he and Antoinette ran and owned George's Coney Island in Delray, Detroit, for nearly a decade. He went on to enjoy a long career as a cement mixer driver for Koenig, where he worked faithfully until the age of 73.
Outside of work, Robert was passionate about woodworking and had a soft spot for animals, especially stray dogs. His last rescue companion, a spirited chihuahua named Ziggy, brought him great joy. Robert also loved music and dancing-he faithfully attended dances twice a week, enjoying partner dancing right up until two weeks before his passing.
He is survived by his children, Sharon (Brian) Dillard, Debbie Rossi, and Nicole Holter; his cherished grandchildren, Shelby (Neil), Cameron, Brandon, Nicholas, Adam, Jordan, Noah, and Jake; and his adored great-granddaughters, Amelia Antoinette and Gianna Grace.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, stubbornness and independence.
Family will receive friends on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM with the Funeral Service starting at 6:00 PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road,
