Robert Russell McGhee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2024. He was born on May 10, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan.
Robert was married to Liane Evens on April 1, 1994, in Charlevoix, Michigan. Their union was a testament to love and partnership that lasted a lifetime. Robert dedicated twenty years of his career to the City Charlevoix serving in the Department of Public Works. His work showcased his commitment to the community he cherished. He was also an accomplished individual academically, having earned two Associate Degrees, reflecting his pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement.
A proud veteran, Robert served in the United States Army, embodying the values of service and dedication. His contributions to his country were a source of pride for him and his family.
In addition to his professional and military achievements, Robert was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in Charlevoix. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and interactions with those around him.
Robert had a passion for various hobbies that brought joy to his life. He loved music and found happiness in sharing his love of fishing with his grandchildren. His adventurous spirit led him to travel up North and enjoy the beauty of nature. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Robert enjoyed riding his bike around town, reveling in the fresh air and the community he called home.
Robert is survived by his step-children: Rebecca (Mike) Henderson of Traverse City, Michigan; Kate (David) VanHooff of Oak Point, Texas and Holly Christensen of Akron, Ohio. He is also survived by his cherished sisters, Mary Sue (Dwight) Thomas of Redford, Michigan, and Elaine Prosser of Neodashe, Kansas. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Bethany, Abagail, Claude, Hugo, Jules, Leif, and Lyra, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Robert Russell McGhee will be remembered as a kind-hearted individual who profoundly touched the lives of those who knew him. His spirit and memories will live on in the hearts of his family and community.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix, Michigan.
Donations in Robert’s honor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
