Mortensen Funeral Homes - Charlevoix ChapelGlen Loren Taylor, 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 13, 1937, in Banks Township, MI, the son of Lewis and Edith (Leigh) Taylor.
Glen graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1955 and went on to obtain a master’s degree in education from Central Michigan University. He began his teaching career at Croswell-Lexington Community Schools, where he met the love of his life, Marcia Kirkpatrick. The two were married on June 10, 1961, at Mc Gregor United Methodist Church in Deckerville. In 1965, they moved to Charlevoix where he finished his 35 years as an educator. Glen coached the Charlevoix High School golf team for many years, as well as the boys’ varsity basketball team. After retiring from teaching, Glen officiated area high school basketball games and was the starter at many track meets.
Glen was a gifted baseball player as a young man, even trying out for the Detroit Tigers. He carried on his love of the game into adulthood and played in baseball and softball leagues in the area. Glen always stayed active; he played men’s league basketball, golfed frequently, participated in cross country ski races, and even ran the Boston Marathon. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting as well. He was also a long time member of the Charlevoix Methodist Church and more recently was a member of the Barnard Methodist Church.
Glen is survived by his children, Karen Green and Jim Taylor, both of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Chuck (Carrie) Green, Sarah (Aaron) Romel, Megan (Sawyer) Seger; great-grandchildren, Craig & Chase Romel, and Cora & Reece Seger.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia Taylor; his parents; his brother, Neil Taylor; and two sisters, Jeanette Dustin and Arlene Taylor.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Barnard Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Following the funeral, Glen will be laid to rest in Ellsworth Cemetery.
