Robert McGinn Obituary

BRISTOL

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" McGinn, Sr., 87 of Bristol, Connecticut - a devoted family man, respected community member, and lifelong sports enthusiast. Bob passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter. Bob was born on March 23, 1938 to the late Joseph and Gertrude McGinn. Born and raised in Bristol, he remained in his hometown with his wife, Anne, to raise their three children. He worked for the City of Bristol in the Public Works department for 40 years and retired as the Superintendent of Solid Waste. He was a proud and passionate golfer, spending over 50 years as a Pequabuck Golf Club member, where he found not just a favorite pastime but a community of close friends. Whether rain or shine, he could be found walking the fairways, perfecting his swing, and sharing stories. Bob was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies. His love of sports extended well beyond spectating. He worked and coached for many years at the Forestville Boys Club & Forestville Little League where he became a mentor and role model to countless young athletes. But above all else, Bob's heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He rarely missed a game, recital, or moment that mattered in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From the sidelines of softball fields to gym bleachers for volleyball and basketball games, his unwavering presence and encouragement were felt and cherished. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. Bob is survived by: his daughter, Robin LeBeau, and her husband, Daniel, of Bristol; his son, Robert McGinn, Jr., and his wife, Kathy, of North Carolina; and his son, Thomas McGinn, and his wife, Mary, of Florida. In addition, he leaves behind eight grandchildren: Kelli LeBeau Russo, Jodi LeBeau Fontecchio, Kristen McGinn Stroud, Katie McGinn, Daniel McGinn, Ryan McGinn, Sarah McGinn, and Michael McGinn. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, who filled his life with joy for the past ten years. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Cassolino, and his sister-in-law, Nancy McGinn. Bob was predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Anne McGinn; his brother and best friend, William McGinn, Sr.; his sister, Geri Trillo; and his brother, Joseph McGinn. The family will welcome relatives and friends during calling hours on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Avenue, Bristol, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Saint Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave, Bristol, CT, followed by a procession to St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Breakthrough T1D (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) www.breakthrought1d.org/ To leave an online message of condolence, please visit Bob's tribute page at www.OBrien-FuneralHome.com
