In Loving Memory of Robert "Rob" McKee
Robert McKee, affectionately known as Rob, was called home to eternal rest in the Lord on January 17, 2026.
Rob called Bobby as a youth, spent his childhood years in Florida, where he called the Tampa–St. Petersburg area home throughout elementary and junior high school. He held fond memories of time spent at St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, and Fort DeSoto in Pinellas County. That area was especially meaningful to him, as his grandfather served as a County Commissioner who believed deeply that recreation should be a priority for citizens. In honor of his grandfather's legacy, the fishing pier at Fort DeSoto on Mullet Key bears his name.
In the early 1970s, Rob and his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he began high school. He remained in the Houston area throughout his life, eventually settling in the Magnolia/Tomball area in 1999 with his beloved wife, Rose.
Rob attended Stratford High School and graduated from Alief Hastings High School. A football player in his youth, a shoulder injury eventually ended his playing days-but not his love of the game, which he continued to enjoy avidly as a fan. He went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, often fondly recounting how he earned spending money for college weekend socials by donating blood.
Throughout his life, Rob explored many career paths, gaining experience, wisdom, and a deep appreciation for the people he met along the way. In 1983-the same year he met the love of his life, Rose-Rob began working with Berger Iron Works in sales and estimating, where his career in the steel industry took root. His professional journey ultimately led him to Milestone Metals, Inc., where he dedicated over 20 years of service and retired as President. Rob was widely respected for his exceptional salesmanship, personable nature, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his values. He was admired by colleagues and beloved by coworkers, many of whom remained close friends long after his retirement.
In their early married years, Rob and Rose shared a love for sailing Hobie Cats and competed together in regattas on lakes and bays throughout Texas. In the late 1990s, Rob discovered another pastime he greatly enjoyed-playing games in Las Vegas. On his very first trip, down to his last $10 and after borrowing another $10 from Rose, Rob played a 20-spot Keno game and won. That first win marked the beginning of many more. Though he never won "the big one," he always seemed to win just enough to keep playing throughout each trip. For nearly 15 years, Rob and Rose traveled to Las Vegas with friends to celebrate Super Bowl weekend, creating many treasured memories.
Throughout their marriage, Rob and Rose traveled extensively across the United States and abroad, forming lasting friendships along the way. Rob had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and cultivated an extraordinary number of lifelong friendships. Later in life, he found peace and quiet reflection in saltwater fishing-a pastime that brought him great joy.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rob was known for his extraordinary generosity, gentle humor, and remarkable gift for numbers. From childhood onward, he was thoughtful, kind, and giving-qualities that shaped how he lived, worked, and loved. And to know Rob was to know his love for dogs; he firmly believed the best dog of all was Jasmin, his beloved Labradoodle.
A devoted husband and Catholic convert, Rob was faithful, loving, and loyal. He shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rose. He is also survived by his brother, Patrick McKee of Magnolia, Texas.
Rob's life was one of service, integrity, laughter, adventure, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered for the warmth, goodness, and generosity he brought into the lives of others.
A private interment will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rob's memory to The Houston 100 Club – Survivor's Fund or
Wounded Warriors.
In your hands, O Lord,
we humbly entrust our brother, Rob, and all our deceased brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest.
The old order has passed away:
welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,
but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
Amen.
