Robert Joseph "Jitter" McLain, 81, of Carmi, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025. He was born on September 8, 1943, in Carmi, the son of Rapheal "Ray" McLain, Jr. and Leona Marie Stovall. Jitter married Trina Webster on August 12, 1995, and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2002. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Jitter worked construction for the Laborers Union of Evansville, Indiana Local #561. He also worked for Hoskins Appliance for 45 years. Jitter was a member of the Carmi VFW Post #3581. He enjoyed working in his garden, fishing, playing cards and dancing. Most of all, he loved being with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jitter is survived by his children, DeeAnn McLain, Robert L. McLain, Jessica L. Gwaltney, Dale R. McLain and Nikki Jonas; grandchildren, Randall W. Norwood, Vanessa T. Browning, Charlie A. McLain, Jacob C. McLain Danton L. Gwaltney, Tabatha L. Turner, Jaylin R. McLain, Isabella G. Jonas, Isaiah J. Jonas and Isaac F. Jonas; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alberta (Ronnie) Garlick and Elvis A. Riley; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including Sandi Leuellen and her family who took great care of her uncle. In addition to his wife, Trina McLain, Jitter is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jimmy Ward, Eddie R. McLain and Shirley A. McLain; a son, Jared Hale; a special great-niece, Cheyenne Hise; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Riley.
Funeral services for Robert Joseph "Jitter" McLain, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Full military rites will be provided. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jitter's memory to Pets at Risk, White County Senior Citizens or the American Legion Post #224, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements. Donations may also be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.
