Robert Mellinger

Robert "Bob" G. Mellinger Sr., 93, of Pinehurst, NC, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. Born on July 20, 1931, in Havertown, PA, Bob lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a commitment to his community.
Bob attended Oakmont Grammar School, and though he left formal education in the ninth grade, his remarkable work ethic shaped a lifetime of varied and meaningful endeavors. Over the years, he worked tirelessly-from helping his father on a horse-and-buggy milk delivery route in Philadelphia and delivering The Philadelphia Bulletin to running his own ARCO gas station in Broomall, PA. Bob also drove school buses for Marple Newtown Schools, fostering connections and friendships with countless families.
Bob met his future wife, Barbara Cooksey at an Atlantic Refining Company gas station in Paoli, PA. The two were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1953, at St. Patrick's Church in Malvern, PA. This year would have marked their 72nd wedding anniversary-a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
After retiring to Florida in 1991, Bob and Barbara relocated to Pinehurst, NC, in 2005, where they found joy in the serene beauty and welcoming community. Bob became deeply involved with the Linden Lodge Foundation, a cause close to his heart. He spent countless hours renovating, landscaping, and assisting with projects that supported the Foundation and its residents.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Cooksey Mellinger; his children, Robert G. Mellinger II, Beverlee E. Mellinger, Beth Ann Mellinger, and his late son, Brian C. Mellinger; his grandchildren, Robert G. Mellinger III (Rachel), Austin Mellinger, Megan Mellinger-Peitz (Ricky), and Lauren Mellinger Mathis (Dalton); and his great-grandchildren, Beatrix E. Mellinger, Bella A. Mathis, Robert G. Mellinger IV, and Baylen Q. Mathis.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Pinehurst Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the compassionate Hospice team for their exceptional care during Bob's final months.
