POLAND - Robert James Metz, age 74 of Poland, Ohio passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Born on July 18, 1951 in Youngstown, Robert was the son of the late James Lauren and Marnie Neoma (Overhoff) Metz.
Robert "Bob" was an extraordinary person who lived his life with humor and love. There wasn't a person that Bob wouldn't help. His level-headed, straight-forward advice was always dependable and right on.
Though his loss is devastating to all who loved and called him friend, we will always be inspired by his honest, dependable, caring and always-ready-with-a-quick-pun traits. Bob was such a devoted husband to his wife, Jane; and to his mother whom after his father passed away, he would drive to her house to spend every lunch hour with her.
Bob had many various jobs starting in Ohio, then Texas, Michigan and back to Ohio where he worked at General Fireproofing for 9 years while earning his Mechanical Engineering degree from Youngstown State; and later accepted a position at Hynes Industries-retiring from there in 2017 as Director of Quality Systems.
A few of Bob's passions were spending time with his "best buddy" Pepper, an African Grey parrot (they were quite the entertaining duo!), he enjoyed his two dogs Petee and Blue; and loved everything having to do with Corvettes! He spent many hours finding, fixing, restoring and discussing Corvettes with his friend Mitch.
Bob is survived by many people who loved him so dearly-his wife, Jane (Lupo) of 47 years, two sons, Christopher (Melissa) West and Mathew (Michelle) West; sister Donna (Joe) Parsons, brother William (Thelma) Metz; grandchildren--Patrick, Taylor, Madelyn and Hudson; nieces and nephew-Alyssa (Jason), Nicole, Maria, Ruthie (Rachel) and Ernie (Elissa); great nieces and nephew-Kensley, Nolan, and Melina; dear sister-in-law Linda (Scott) Knox; special cousins Jack & Krista, Dan & Brenda and good friends-Steve, Kathy, the Marciella Family, Debbie, Maryann and Leisha & Mitch.
Per Bob's wishes, there will be no services.
