NILES - Gerald L. Savo Sr., aged 80, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2026.
Born on April 1, 1945, in Campbell, Jerry lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to his faith and family.
A proud graduate of Campbell Memorial High School in 1963, Jerry went on to attend Youngstown State University. His commitment to serving his country led him to enlist in the Army Reserves in August 1964, where he would serve until April 1970. After his service, he joined General Motors, where he spent a fruitful career as a paint supervisor at the GM Lordstown plant before advancing to a supervisory position at the truck plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he retired in 1998.
In 1980, Jerry was ordained as a Deacon in the Dioceses of Youngstown. His faith was evident in his many roles, including serving as CCD Principal at St. Luke's Church for 12 years, leading Bible studies, and offering his support as a Chaplain at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Church, he inspired those around him with his unwavering faith and commitment to serving others.
Jerry's legacy also continues through his joys-his love for golfing, bowling, fishing, and his unwavering support for the Cleveland Browns and Guardians.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dolores Jean Zokle Savo, whom he married April 16, 1966; daughter, Christine L. (Kenneth) Pavlak of Austintown; sons, Gerald L. (Charlene) Savo Jr. of Canfield and David M. (Amanda) Savo of Dickson, TN; brother, Randy (Nancy) Savo of Campbell; grandchildren, Cassandra, Christiana, Nicholas, Dominic, Daniel, Jacob, Olivia, Anthony and Roman; a great granddaughter, Marceline; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lillian LaRocca Savo; brothers, Samuel Savo Sr. and Russell Savo; niece, Nina Savo; and nephew, Samuel Savo Jr.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life with calling hours at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 4 to 7 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Blaise Parish at St. Joseph Church on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Prayers will be held prior to the mass at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Jerry's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the Nurses and caregivers at Patriot At Home - Hospice in Girard and Home Instead of Austintown for their compassion, kindness and support.
