Cheryl Abeid Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasko Funeral Home - Campbell on Feb. 19, 2026.
Cheryl Ann Abeid, 65

CAMPBELL…Cheryl Ann Abeid, 65 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.

Cheryl was born January 21, 1961 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of John Stanko and Marlene (Testa) Hahn.

She was a proud 1979 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

Cheryl married the love of her life, Gary Abeid, on March 8, 1980. Together they shared 46 wonderful years of devoted marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and unwavering commitment to one another.

She dedicated 38 years of her professional life to retail. Cheryl spent 25 years with Fashion Bug as their Visual Merchandiser and concluded her career with 13 years at SalonCentric. Throughout the years, she was offered numerous managerial opportunities; however, she consistently chose to prioritize her family, believing that her greatest calling was at home.

A faithful member of Victory Christian Church for 46 years, Cheryl was deeply involved in her church community. She devotedly served by caring for young children during services, demonstrating her nurturing spirit and steadfast dedication to her faith.

Above all, Cheryl's family was her entire world. As the eldest sibling, she naturally embraced the role of caregiver, helping raise her siblings, nieces, and nephews, in addition to her two children, Jessie and Anthony. She was lovingly known as "Nunnie" to her grandchildren, whom she cherished and cared for weekly. Cheryl was fully devoted to her husband, Gary, caring for him selflessly through every season of life. Their love was wholehearted and united-they truly were one. Their marriage stands as a beautiful testament and enduring example to their children.

Cheryl was a fierce protector, a selfless caregiver, a prayer warrior, and her children's biggest champion. She celebrated every milestone-big or small-with enthusiasm and intention. She ensured her children were raised in church and always made it a point to encourage and uplift those around her. With a warm smile and a quick sense of humor, Cheryl had a gift for lightening even the heaviest moments.

She was an exceptional cook who believed that sharing good food was an expression of love. In addition to feeding her family, she cooked and served weekly meals for the Youngstown Christian Football Team, where she proudly served as team mom for three years. Cheryl spent countless hours at football, baseball, softball and volleyball games, cheering so passionately that her children could always hear her voice rising above the crowd.

Generous by nature, Cheryl regularly gave to organizations that reached out to support those less fortunate. She found joy in giving and in putting others before herself. Her favorite place was the beach, where she could often be found at sunrise, walking along the shore as the first light of day appeared.

Cheryl's life was defined by faith, devotion, generosity, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and steadfast commitment that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Cheryl will be deeply missed and always remembered by her husband, Gary; her children, Jessie (Timothy Jr.) Gaffey of Cortland and Anthony (Kayla) Abeid of Pagosa Springs, CO; 7 grandchildren, Andrew (Samantha), Elijah, Anthony Jr., Samuel, Sarai, Caleb and Magdalena; her mother, Marlene Hahn; siblings, Regina, Teresa, Michelle, Yvonne, and Robert along with many nieces and nephews and her best friends Christy and Beth.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Stanko.

The Abeid family has entrusted Cheryl's care to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell, Ohio where calling hours will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 5-8pm. Calling hours will be held again on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Victory Christian Church in Coitsville from10:30-11:30am followed by a funeral service at 11:30am.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made on her behalf to Compassion Ministries at Victory Church, Coitsville.

I´m so deeply sorry for your loss. What an impact Cheryl had on the lives she touched. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. Even though I hadn´t seen her in recent years, I´ll never forget her sense of humor, and how she always made you feel genuinely seen and valued whenever she talked with you. I know her goodness and spirit lives on through her children and grandchildren. My deepest sympathies to Gary and her beautiful family. Sending love and prayers.
