Robert Meyer
Robert Thomas "Bob" Meyer, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 9, 2025.
Bob was born in Brunswick on Nov. 10, 1930, to Charles and Robina Meyer. He graduated from Glynn Academy and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in aerospace engineering.
Bob served in the United States Navy as an aviator, flying over the Pacific Rim during active duty. He continued his service in the Reserves and IRR, retiring with the rank of Commander.
His love of aviation carried over into his professional life. Bob worked for NASA, General Dynamics, and ultimately Lockheed Martin for 40 years, retiring at age 72 in 2002 as a specialist in Stability and Flight Control.
As the youngest of five children, Bob spent his youth in coastal south Georgia, enjoying the ocean, baseball and participating in the Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also very active in his church community.
Faith remained an integral part of Bob's life. After moving to Marietta, he became deeply involved with St. Joseph's Catholic Church, working in young adult education and serving as a lector, as well as volunteering with MUST Ministries and other community programs.
Bob's life will be defined by his love for family, friends and community. Whether it was through church, golf, fishing or travel, these were all opportunities for him to spend time with loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Bett; daughter Linda Parker (Sam); sons, David (Beth), Paul (Kim) and Robbie Meyer; daughters-in-law, Linda Oxford (Charles) and Lisa King (Wade); and his cherished nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bob's greatest joy came from celebrating birthdays, holidays and special occasions with his family.
Bob will be deeply missed but eternally loved. He will be remembered as an inspiration to all whose lives he touched and for his long life of service.
A memorial Mass to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at St. William Catholic Church, 2300 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, followed by a reception at the St. Simons Island Casino.
