Robert Stuart Mims, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born December 19, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky he was the son of the late George S. "Jake" and Grace Gibson Mims. Stuart proudly served in the United States Air Force. He attended the University of Kentucky and remained a Big Blue Fan his entire life. Stuart began his working years paving and excavating for Skilton Construction where he worked on large scale projects including Commonwealth Football Stadium, widening of Nicholasville Road, and many other major projects. He then moved his family to Florida where he was a building inspector for new 7-11 Stores. In 1984, he moved his family back to Kentucky where he worked as an independent contractor before starting Woodford Landscaping in the late 1990's. In addition to UK Sports, he also enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Stuart will be lovingly remembered by his children, James (Susan) Mims, Venice, FL, Amy (Eric) Stephens, Versailles, grandchildren, Thomas (Jessica) Mims, Evansville, IN, Samantha Stephens, Versailles, mother to his children, Linda Tondreau, Versailles. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bridget Miller.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, brother-in-law Joseph Castello officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 4:00 pm. Memorial donations are suggested to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1941 Bishop Lane #108, Louisville, KY 40218. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories here on Stuart's tribute wall.
