Mr. Robert Wayne Mitchell Sr., 89, of Westfield, passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 4, 1937, in Stokes County to the late William Ransom “Will” Mitchell and Bertha Lou Hutchens Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1960 to 1963, after which he returned to his family land in the Collinstown community to become a tobacco and cattle farmer. He was a faithful member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Anita Cochran Mitchell of the home; sons John (Sharon Bennett) Mitchell of Davidson and Robert (Jessie Tucker) Mitchell of Winston-Salem; daughter Julie (Jonathan) Slate of Westfield; grandchildren John William and Elizabeth Mitchell of Davidson, Jonah Slate (fiancee Bailey Jackson) of Winston-Salem, Jarrett Slate (girlfriend Abby Isom) of Lawsonville, Elsa Mitchell of Chapel Hill, and Truman, Fletcher, and Archer Mitchell of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Helen Bondurant Mitchell as well as many nieces and nephews; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Lou Mitchell Rogers and Frances Ann Mitchell Frans; two brothers, James William “Bill” Mitchell and Jesse Thomas “Tom” Mitchell; and a beloved grandson, Matthew Gavin Mitchell. A service of worship and celebration will be held at Collinstown Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 21. The family will receive visitors afterward in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Collinstown Presbyterian Church, 2868 Collinstown Road, Westfield, NC 27053.
