Bob Montgomery, age 93, passed away on February 24, 2024. Born in Akron, Ohio, he spent most of his life in Green. Bob graduated from Garfield High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Akron Fire Department.
Bob was a lieutenant in the fire department, an arson investigator, taught at Stark State College, an EMT, graduated from the Sheriff Academy, and was a mason of Scottish Rite. He enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, antiques, spending summers at Crystal Lake in West Virginia, traveling with the AARP bus tours. He loved golfing and skiing, and was a history buff. Bob was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge # 47 F&AM and a 32nd degree AASR Valley of Akron.
Robert Is preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Leafy Montgomery; and his wife, Judy. He is survived in death by his daughters, Jill Simmons (Bob), and Lisa Welch (Jeff); grandchildren, Jesse, Corey (Julia), Brynne (Anthony), Robert, Grant, and Brett; great grandchildren, RJ and Quinn; and his beloved dog Riley, who never left his side.
Friends and family will be received Friday, March 1st, 4 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St. NW, Uniontown, OH 44685. Last Alarm service by the Akron Fire Department will begin at 6:45 p.m. with a masonic service put on by the Clinton Masonic Lodge beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral service will follow. Memorials are suggested to Rose’s Rescue, www.rosesrescue.net.
