Robert Moriarty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Old Bridge Funeral Home on Aug. 9, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Robert Michael Moriarty, affectionately known as Bob-O, on August 8, 2025, at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge. Born on August 21, 1945, in the Bronx, NY, to the late Gerald and Dorothy (Meagher) Moriarty, Bob's life was distinguished by unwavering dedication to family and country, a remarkable career, and an enduring sense of humor.

A devoted family man, Bob was survived by his wife, Kathleen Krause Moriarty, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 54 years. He was predeceased by his siblings, Gerald, Richard, and Joan. He will be deeply missed by his only surviving sister, Rita Gorman of Manhattan. His enduring legacy is carried on by his devoted daughters, Stacy Razzano and her husband David of South River, Kerri McDonnell and her husband Pete of South River, and his beloved son, Brian of Manalapan. Bob was also the adoring grandfather of six grandchildren: Nicholas, Brody, Patrick, Carter, Kyra, and Ryan, who brought boundless joy and laughter to his life.

A respected professional, Bob served as Vice President at Aon in New York City. His dedication to service extended beyond his career, as evidenced by his active membership in the Old Bridge Elks #2229, the American Legion, and the VFW, showcasing his profound patriotism and community commitment.

Christianity played a pivotal role in Bob's life, shaping his interactions and guiding his actions. The terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers marked a significant turning point in Bob's journey to a deeper faith. Bob worked on the 101st floor of the south tower commuting into NYC from Old Bridge for over 35 years. As the first plane struck the North Tower on the morning of 9/11 he evacuated the building and when he reached the ground floor took cover under a truck as the second plane hit the south tower. With his family eagerly awaiting to learn his whereabouts, he pulled up safely in front of his home later that day after renting a car with other local residents

Bob spent 30+ years coaching softball and enjoyed the camaraderie of his teammates and players traveling throughout the northeast for tournaments. He was also an avid pool player learning the game during his youth in the Bronx and continued to play throughout his adult life. His affinity for DIY backyard projects led him to regularly visit Home Depot and Lowe's, proudly using his veteran card to receive discounts. Honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving in the Vietnam Conflict, Bob remained proud of his service, with his passing occurring precisely fifty-five years later on the anniversary of his discharge.

Bob's outstanding sense of humor was widely recognized, and he often used it to bring joy to those around him, sharing amusing stories and witty remarks that made laughter a staple of his relationships. His loving, funny, and selfless personality made him a cherished presence, and his absence will be deeply missed by all. As we say goodbye to Bob, we honor a life that was characterized by love, laughter, and a commitment to serving others. His memory will continue to inspire us, and his spirit will remain a beacon of joy in the hearts of his family and friends. Rest in peace, Best.

For those wishing to visit with Bob's family may do so at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Route 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857 on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 4pm until 8pm and on Thursday, August 14, 2025 beginning 9:30am. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Parish, 83 Throckmorton Lane, Old Bridge on Thursday at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
