Robert Eugene Mortvedt was born on September 17, 1933, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to Ernest and Clara (Halvorson) Mortvedt. Robert graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1951. He was a proud graduate from University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Robert went on to serve honorably as an officer and pilot in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. This period of service instilled in him strong sense of duty and community that he carried throughout his life. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Becky Petersen, in Racine, Wisconsin. Together, they nurtured a loving family that included their cherished children Clare and Jacob.
As an ordained minister for 61 years, Robert touched countless lives through his ministry. He served 36 years in five parishes in California and Nebraska, and as an interim pastor for eight congregations in Nebraska and Minnesota, always leading with compassion and wisdom. His passion for teaching Bible study classes was evident, as he inspired many with his profound understanding of scripture and the boundless love he shared.
An avid reader and sports enthusiast, Robert found joy in both the pages of books and the thrill of watching his favorite teams. His legacy of faith, kindness, and compassion will forever resonate in the heart of those who knew him.
