Robert Michael Mueller died on Friday, January 23, 2026. He was 87 years old. He was born May 29,1938 in Wadsworth, Ohio to Robert Francis and Marion Baker Mueller. They moved to Portsmouth, Virginia when Bob was one year old, but always thought of himself as a Virginia native.

He was predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Stacy Mueller Boylan, and son-in law, William James Boylan; brothers, William Mueller and Richard Mueller; and brother-in-law, Lewis Ollice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Francene Ollice Mueller; his son, Robert Francis Mueller and daughter-in-law Jennifer; granddaughters, Lane and Alex Mueller; brother-in -law, Christopher Ollice and wife, Dr. Jennifer Reed; sister, Linda Mueller Rocket; and countless nieces and nephews.

Bob attended Churchland High School and was a member of the Churchland Truckers football team that was undefeated in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1963, the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1964-1966, and the U.S. Marine Reserve in 1967. He also served as a civilian contractor in Viet Nam in 1968. He attended and studied at Piedmont Aerospace Institute in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 1969-1971. He retired from the Virginia Army National Guard as First Sergeant E8 in 1998.

Bob knew from an early age that he was very interested in aviation and was always drawn to it. He was employed with the United States Government, Naval Aviation Engineering Service Unit, (NavAir), Oceana, Virginia Beach Va. being recognized for outstanding service 1974-1989, and Naval Aviation Depot, Norfolk Va.1989-1996. With the closing of the Naval Aviation Depot, he was assigned an office in Virginia Beach, Va. While at this location, he wrote and perfected the manual on the maintenance for the wiring on the F14 Fighter Jet and was published by Naval Aviation Technical Systems. He retired from the United States Government in 1998.

Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed many things. He loved aviation, the outdoors, history, target shooting, trapping, and loved bike riding many miles. He was always reading a favorite book or magazine. As a boy and a young man, he trapped muskrats, he made things for the home and yard through woodworking and, target shooting with friends. After enjoying doing many things Bob decided to purchase a motorcycle that he enjoyed riding for several years. Bob and Fran enjoyed trips to Italy and France and just getting together with friends or family for dinner or special occasions always engaging in good conversation. He really loved and enjoyed seeing and being with his granddaughters and watching them grow and become beautiful, smart young ladies. He was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all.

He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Norfolk County Rifle Range, Chesapeake Va., and Airfield Shooting Club, Wakefield, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, or Autism Speaks.
