Robert Devere Mummert, 89, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 8:48 pm on Friday, May 16, 2025 at his home. He was born on March 13, 1936 in Dwight, IL, the son of Devere and Mary Belle (Robertson) Mummert. Bob married Loretta June Derry on December 19, 1959 in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters; DeeVon (and Wendell) Schisler of Astoria and Rhonda (and Terry) Palm of Ipava, IL, son; Robert Mummert Jr., seven grandchildren; Nathan (and Sarah) Allen, Miranda (and Jacob) Hoppock, Tyler (and Taylor) Lamb, Kristin Lamb, Rachelle (and Joey) Michalski, Robert Mummert III and Regan Mummert, 9 great-grandchildren, and one brother; Jon (and Cindy) Mummert of Browning, IL.
He is preceded in death by one brother, James Mummert.
Bob served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1964 with a rank of Airman Second Class.
He graduated from Bradley University with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He went on to work at several places including Hiram Walker's in Peoria, IL, Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Melrose Park, IL, Allstate Insurance as an insurance adjuster for over 20 years, IDOT as a lead worker for over 15 years, Amax Coal Company at Sunspot Mine and IDPH in Lewistown, IL.
Bob enjoyed street rods, motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons and collecting Lionel Trains. He loved animals, especially his dog Maggie.
Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Jon Mummert and Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to service on Saturday. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Astoria Fire and Rescue.
