Obituary of Robert David Murphy
Robert David Murphy, aged 81, passed away on June 20, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on October 28, 1942, in Philippi, West Virginia, a son of the late David Harrison and Rita Mae Simmons Murphy. On January 10, 1970, he married Joyce Ann Miller who preceded him in death on April 26, 2004. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Murphy, James Murphy, and Daniel Murphy; two sisters, Lois Gregory, Janet Godfrey; and his son, Robert Davis Murphy Jr. He is survived by his wife, Linda G. Murphy; three daughters, Michelle Garcia, Kimberly Perez, and Victoria Johnston; one son, Jonathan Rollison; nine grandchildren, Christina Jeffcoat, Kimberly Murphy, Alexus Baugher, Joseph Garcia, Jose Garcia, Christian Murphy, Johnnie Frazier, Kimberly Lynn Perez and Selena Ann Perez; numerous great-grandchildren; five sisters, Wilma Dilley, Pearl Chidester, Mary Peck, Pam Green, and Jessie Anderson and two brothers, Ralph Murphy and Virgil Murphy. Robert was a proud Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country with honor until his release on February 1, 1977. Post-military, he continued his life of service as a retired veteran, dedicating much of his time to woodwork, a hobby that brought him great joy and fulfillment, and his family. Robert was a devout member of the Southern Baptist community, frequently attending services and participating in community activities. His faith played a significant role in his life, guiding him through his years and providing comfort in times of need. Friends will be received 11 AM – 12 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM (noon). Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Webster Springs, WV. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
