Robert Lee Nelson Sr. (Bob) passed away on June 10, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by family. A longtime resident of Phoenix, Oregon, Bob lived a life centered around the family he loved deeply. His sharp sense of humor kept us smiling, even in his final days.

Born on November 25, 1930, Bob grew up in Southern Oregon, where he attended Talent Elementary and later graduated from Prospect High School. He served in the U.S. Army, worked as a logger, and went on to own and operate Bob’s Pump Service for 23 years.

Bob was married to the love of his life, Frances Pauline Stover, for nearly 73 years. Together, they raised two children: Karen Liane Mowry and Robert Lee Nelson Jr. He was also a beloved brother to Neil Green, Bert Nelson, and sister Deborah Gale.

Bob was the grandfather to five granddaughters and 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He spent many summer days on his boat with them, teaching them how to fish and drive the boat, telling stories, laughing, singing songs, and making lifelong memories.

Bob was an amazing storyteller. He told stories we knew by heart, but they were his stories, and we never tired of hearing them. They were part of him, and we loved him all the more for it.

Bob had a passion for bass fishing, and in his younger days, he loved to ski. He was a long-time member of the Kiwanis, and was president for several years. He also loved making homemade jam, which he would always share with friends and family. Everyone who came to his home was sure to leave with a jar or two of his jam.

Bob's love knew no bounds, and the impact he made on all who knew him will last a lifetime. We will never forget his strength, his humor, and his heart. His crooked smile and his laugh that shook his whole body. He taught us the importance of family and how to find joy in the little things. He was our rock, our storyteller, and our hero.

There is no way to capture the full life and spirit of such an incredible man in just a few paragraphs. Bob was so much more to us than words can express; his love, his stories, and his presence filled every room and left a mark on every heart. This is only a glimpse of the man we were so lucky to know and love.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will be no service. In his memory, donations may be made to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital.
