Robert H. (Bob) Niesen, 89, of Chicago, died peacefully and as he wished, at home with his wife Jackie by his side on September 26, 2024, their 60th wedding anniversary.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife M. Jacqueline Niesen (nee Lane), and their children Kelly Niesen-Zadell (Bill), and Timothy John Niesen (Amy). Bob was a dearest 'Papa' to Molly Lynn Zadell, John Patrick Zadell, Daniel Lane Niesen (Marissa), Ryan Nickolas Niesen, Ashley Michelle Niesen, and Nicholas Robert Niesen. In January Bob became a Great-Grandfather to Hazel Ann Niesen.
Bob was born February 26, 1935 in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Kathryn and Henry Niesen. He graduated from St. Rita High School, and remained a devoted brother to his sisters Kathryn Mangan and Mary Lou Kolovitz until the end of his life. He was preceded in death by his dear parents, brother William (Billy), and in-laws Mildred and John Lane.
Bob was a life-long White Sox fan, golfer, and Mr. Fix It. He was an early riser, a trait that served him well for over 35 years as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Dee Concrete Accessories, and later in retirement for his coveted sunrise tee time at the Tam O'Shanter Golf Course.
For his entire adult life Bob talked about how much he disliked wakes and funerals, and often expressed his desire to have neither when he passed. To honor his wishes, the final arrangements were private.
Bob was a calm and wise man who made everyone who knew him feel welcome and loved. His 'Dad Jokes' were legendary and will forever make us laugh. One of his favorite jokes started in 1969, when he and Jackie moved to Edgebrook to raise their family. After weeks of unpacking boxes, Bob declared moving much too stressful and stated that the only way he would ever move from his home again was 'feet first'. Fifty-five years later, he did just that.
