Obituary published on Legacy.com by Borchardt & Moder Funeral Homes - Shiocton on Sep. 11, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Nussbaum, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, GGPa, mentor, hero, best friend, was called home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2025 due to a tragic accident.
Bob was born to the late John and Regina (Reimer) Nussbaum on November 15, 1944 in Appleton. He grew up working on the family farm, attended the LA Follette school house where he would roller skate (up hill both ways) to school (1 mile from his home), later graduated from Shiocton High School in 1962 and married his soul mate, Mary Pat Omholt, in 1966. He began his memorable work life with Bentle Brothers Cheese Factory, moved into employment with Landwehr Material as a heavy equipment mechanic, spent a short time with CR Meyer, and ended his service to public industry at Boldt as a crane mechanic (a job he loved). He, his Dad (Grandpa John) and his daughters ran the family farm
until 1994, when he hung up his milk cans for good. Bob retired from Boldt Construction in 2011 but remained active in the Operating Engineers Local 139.
The shift from "regular work" didn't mean he was going to rest, it meant his way of life was just going to focus on other things he loved like serving others in the shop and at home. For those lucky enough to cross paths with Bob, they'll remember his kindness, his thoughtfulness, his wickedly warm sense of humor and his ability to outwork anyone below his almost 81 years young.
Many knew Bob was the one they could go to for anything….if he didn't have the answer, he would find the answer. He was a man known to have whatever you needed, answers to all the tough questions and reminded others that anything is possible, it's the impossible that just takes a little longer to figure out. He was the neighborhood fix-it man and the pilar of hard work and kindness that left an indelible mark on his family and friends. Bob enjoyed every minute of his commitment to give his time, so much so that his phone number was on speed dial for many and his wife celebrated when he got his first flip phone, that became an extension of his connection to serve. Making his run for parts, to help someone out or just driving through the "family compound," it wasn't uncommon to see him driving around in his truck, on a four wheeler, or on the side by side with his four legged side kick.
Bob wasn't all work he also enjoyed "relaxing" up north at the cottage, dedicating his time to family while making memories filled with laughter, love, fishing and a pontoon. His dedication and love for his wife represented an unbreakable bond with a faithfulness that his children could see and understand what marriage is meant to be. He didn't tell them how to live, he just simply lived and let them watch him doing it so that they would become better people in the world around them.
His legacy is etched into the hearts of those who knew him with stories that brought people to life. Things like moving a house down the road or moving a shed from miles away. Accepting a speeding ticket on a tractor. Taking a quick swim in the pool after baling hay, creating a party in the pit that brought people together with fireworks that lit up the night. Chatting in the barn while milking cows, reminding his children and grandchildren that horse play turns into horseshit or creating the World's Largest Cup of Hot Chocolate. The memories held by family and friends will continue to bring joy to the hearts of so many.
Bob is sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Mary Pat, daughters Theresa (Mica) Kohanski, Sheila (Tom) Kelly Jr. Grand children, RJ Kohanski, Vu Ngo, Emily (Dylan) Rummel, Rebecca (special friend Brandon) Kelly, and Sam Kelly. Great grandchild Miles Rummel. "Third daughter" Angela (Darius) Parks, Grandchildren Dominic (Fiancé Kendra) Parks, Olivia Parks, Daraleigh Parks. Great grandchild Jaxson Parks.
Bob is further missed by his brother Ray Nussbaum, Brother and Sister-in-law Tom (Sheila) Omholt, numerous nieces, nephews, and many many many many close loving friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Regina Nussbaum, Mother and Father-In-Law Russell and Verna Omholt. Siblings Ronald (Delores) Nussbaum, Kathy (Wallace) Coenen, Sister-in-Law Audry Nussbaum and Great Granddaughter Roselyn Rummel.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, September 15, 2025 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Nussbaum family will be used to promote Youth in the Trades or make a donation to a
charity of your choice.
