Robert (Bob) J. O'Connell Jr, Tis Himself. On October 10, 2024, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Loving son of the late Cathrine and Robert O'Connell. Beloved husband of Suzanne (nee Swider) for 55 years. Devoted father Robert (Mary) and Andy (Abby). Loving brother of Mary Elizabeth Corcoran (James), Anne Bitting (John), Catherine Grabis (Andrew), Michael (Edna), John, James (Anne), Edward (Kimberly), Joseph (Catherine) and his brother & best friend, the late William (Kathleen). Loving Poppy/Bobby to Caleigh, Andy, Olivia, Jack, Bobby, and Braeden. He is also survived by his 44 nieces/nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bob was a proud graduate of West Catholic, class of 59. He was equally as proud to be a member of the Steamfitters union (local 420) for over 40 years. Bob was passionate about the continuity of being part of the union and helping his fellow members. He loved spending time at his place at the shore in North Wildwood, taking in the sunsets from the deck while listening to his favorite 50's classic tunes or socializing on the promenade. He enjoyed scenic boat rides on his Boston Whaler and "fishing" from the dock of the Wharf. Many of his 82 summers were spent down the shore and he met the love of this life there - it held a very special place in his heart. During his downtime, Bob loved to watch his western movies often saying The Duke's lines along with him.
Above all else, Bob loved his family. He cherished the role of being a big brother and was always there when a loved one needed him. He loved his friends and family fiercely, often lending his time and wisdom to them. Later in life, he would take on one of his most beloved roles of being a grandfather. He loved being around his grandkids, they could do no wrong in his eyes. He was a fixture on the sidelines for their sporting events, never missed a birthday or a holiday with them.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing and Funeral, Friday, October 18, 2024 after 10:30 A.M. at St. Agnes Church, Coles Road and Little Gloucester Road, Peters Ln, Blackwood, NJ 08012 followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bob's memory to Saint Jude Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org) or by mail at St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Rachubinski & Rogers Funeral Homes.
