Robert “Rob” John O’Connell, 52, passed away suddenly on November 22, 2025. Born on February 20, 1973, in Troy, New York, Rob spent most of his life in the capital district of NY, where he built a life rooted in love, service, kindness and community.

A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Rob served multiple tours in the Middle East. His dedication to his country was matched only by his devotion to his family. For 29 years, he was the beloved husband of Lalainya O’Connell (Blosser). Together they raised four children—Emily, Meghan, Rhys, and Brodie—who were the greatest joy and pride of his life.

Rob is survived by his wife Lalainya O'Connell (Blosser); children Emily O'Connell, Meghan O'Connell, Rhys O'Connell and Brodie O'Connell; mother Marlin Henry (Slichko); sister Bethany Barry (Henry) and her husband Mike; brothers Shane Henry and Ryan Henry; stepmother Becky O’Connell; mother-in-law Karen Arndt (Blosser); sister-in-law Laura Iwerson (Blosser); his niece, two nephews, and many extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his father Robert O’Connell and father-in-law Ronald Blosser.

Rob built a long and respected career in the power industry. Outside of work, he gave generously of his time as a Cub Scout leader and was a dedicated volunteer at his sons’ swim meets. He was endlessly proud of his children and supported every milestone and dream they pursued.

He loved cooking, Star Wars, the Pittsburgh Steelers, listening to Pearl Jam or Rush, reading, traveling, and—above all—being with his family. His warmth, humor and sheer genuineness touched all who knew him. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community, and his absence leaves an immeasurable void.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, November 25 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar.  A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation.  Private interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rob’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that held personal meaning for him.

Rob will be forever missed and always remembered.
