Robert Paul "Butch" Offield, 85, of Eagleville, Missouri, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City, Missouri.
Robert was born on March 2, 1940 in Joliet, Illinois to Earl Clarence and Clara Lavona (Cross) Offield. He acquired the nickname Butch by the time his mother took him home from the hospital. At age 2, his family moved to Blythedale, Missouri where he continued to grow and attend school. Around age 12, his family moved to California, where he eventually attended Oakland High and he met Margaret Elizabeth Lindsay in 1956. He enlisted in the United States army in 1958 and received basic training at Fort Ord near Monterey, California. Then was sent to Fort Bragg in North Carolina for jump school. He became a qualified parachutist with the 82nd air born division of the 501st infantry in April 1959. Robert and Margaret were married on December 15, 1959 while he was on leave. He received an honorable discharge in May 1961. He returned home to California and soon bought a home in Fremont, California where their sons James and Tracy were born. He was the owner and operator of a dump truck for a couple years before working at Niles Sand and Gravel assembling a dredge for the quarry. By 1973, California was getting more populated and traffic was getting heavier. So the family bought a small farm and moved to Missouri. Robert went to work for Phelps and Landes as a diesel mechanic then later for Landes Repair. His last job was with Hawkeye Tile, Inc. in Bethany, Missouri.
Robert loved to go fishing, country life, and horses.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Clara Offield; siblings, Earlene, Nadine, Leo, Dick, Bonnie, Jessie, Mary, Mavis, Ronnie, Lynnette, Carol Sue, and Harold Gel (Chipper) and adopted grandson. He is survived by his wife, Maragaret Offield; sons, James Offield (Lisa) and Tracy Offield (Becky Jennings); grandchildren, Ragan Bailey (Amanda), Damon Offield, Jacob Offield, Tahirih Offield, Shane Offield, and Pascia Offield; and great grandchildren, Auzryana Lopez, Josiah Ragan Bailey, and Marley Linendoll.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Roberson Funeral Home, 10058 10th St. Eagleville, MO 64442. A visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Blythedale, Missouri.
