Robert Pelak of Beaverton, Oregon passed away from complications of Alzheimer's Disease on December 30, 2024. Robert was born and raised in Plains Township, Pennsylvania and graduated from Plains High School in 1958. He earned a BS in Education from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1962 and a MA in Education from Indiana University in 1967. Bob taught high school chemistry and physics for 35 years, principally at Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, New York.
Bob enjoyed being out and about in the natural world and was particularly fond of camping, ice fishing and photography. He served as a Cubmaster and Scoutmaster in the local scouting organizations in his then home of Monroe, New York. He also enjoyed working with personal computers
and was an early advocate for the use of computers in the classroom. Later in life, he and Nancy traveled throughout the world and visited numerous places from Svalbard to Kenya to Antarctica.
Bob is survived by Nancy, his wife of 61 years; four sons Robert (Ellen), Ronald (Anita), Richard, and Randell (Jamie); six grandchildren; his sister Barbara; niece Marybeth; and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother John.
A funeral mass will be held for Robert at Saint Juan Diego Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon on January 27 at 11:00AM. The interment of his ashes will take place at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Elysburg, Pennsylvania in the coming springtime. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
