Robert Earl Penny

Robert Earl Penny, 40, lover of life and laughter, left us too soon on March 17, 2026.

He was born August 19, 1985 in Durham NC to the late Lonnie Sills, Sr. and Susan Penny Lyons (Rodney).

Robert attended Franklin County Public Schools. He was respected for his dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on all whom he had the pleasure of working with. In his free time, Robert found joy in the simple moments with his family and friends.

Robert will be missed by his loving wife of 16 years, Melissa Penny; three step daughters Cathenia White, Samiyra White, and Destinee Wilson (Christian); his two brothers Stephone Penny (Ashley) of Greenville, NC, and Lonnie Sills, Jr. of Franklinton NC; and his sister Catherine Sills of Raleigh NC. He also leaves to cherish his three aunts, Deborah Penny, Annie Pender (Jeff) of Franklinton NC, and Mary Gregory (Jerry) of Louisburg NC; and his uncle Charlie Penny Jr. (Connie) of Raleigh NC; seven grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Sills Sr.; his paternal grandparents Robert and Maggie Sills; his maternal grandparents Charlie Penny, Sr. and Nora Mae Penny; along with his four aunts Betty Hayes, Ruby Brodie, Nancy Moses, and Shelia Sills.

Robert will always be remembered for his wisdom and kindness; not only extended to his family, but to all of those who knew him.
