Robert was an avid reader, he enjoyed shopping, talking, and spending quality time with family.

A Military Tribute will be held, beginning at 11:00AM on Friday August 15, 2025 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 6th & Locust Streets, Columbia, PA.

This will be followed by the Funeral Service with Interment AT Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.

A Viewing will be held on Friday at the Church from 10:00AM - 11:00AM.

Robert Poindexter, son of the late Frank J. Poindexter and the late Dorothy E. Burke Poindexter, was born on July 4, 1939 in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Robert married the love of his life, Shirley Bailer P. Poindexter on November 24, 1984.

He was a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church, served on the church Trustee board, was a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Men of Valor, and sang with the Mount Zion Singers.

Robert was an avid sports fan, he loved Jazz Music and Gospel Music-most notably, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Robert was an avid reader, he enjoyed shopping, talking, and spending quality time with family. He was a great fundraiser.

Robert attended Columbia High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Air force. He was a proud Air Force Veteran. He was a Prince Hall Mason and was a member of Lincoln Valley Lodge #93 of Columbia, PA where he was elected & served as Worshipful Master. He served as Illustrious Potentate of Himyar Shrine Temple #17 and was a member of Nimrod Consistory #9, both of Harrisburg, PA. Robert was a member of the former Harvey T. Makle Post #722 American Legion.

Robert retired from McMinns Asphalt. Later, during his retirement he worked for the Manheim Auto Auction.

Robert Poindexter went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Penn Medicine, Lancaster General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Bailer P. Poindexter. Surviving besides his wife are his daughter, Aleece Miller of Mt Joy, PA, stepchildren, Terrence Proctor and Tamara Cooksey (Michael), both of Columbia, PA; siblings, Vivian Colon of Columbia, PA and Gerald Poindexter (Elaine) of California, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by siblings, Lucille Abney, John Poindexter, Leroy Poindexter, Elizabeth Lopez, Charles Poindexter, Norma Freeman, Barbara Beattie, Arthur Poindexter, Richard Poindexter, and Malcom Poindexter.

A Military Tribute will be held, beginning at 11:00AM on Friday August 15, 2025 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 6th & Locust Streets, Columbia, PA. This will be followed by the Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Patricia S. McAllister officiating. Interment at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. A Viewing will be held on Friday at the Church from 10:00AM - 11:00AM.
