Robert was born in Detroit, MI to the late Rose Locher and John Polgar. As a devout Catholic, Robert served as an altar boy for 12 years before graduating All Saints High School in 1946.
Robert served as a Corporal in the US Army from September 1946 through February 1948. Upon his discharge from the Army, he established A&P Electronics, where he specialized in Radio and TV sales and service. During one service call, Robert met Cleo Diegel, a widow with four young children. After completing the service call, one of Cleo's sons, Kenny, invited him to stay for coffee. Months later, Robert and Cleo married. Together they raised six additional children and were happily married until Cleo passed away in 1989.
In September 1991, Robert married Sherrilyn Vanderlip. They raised one daughter together; and as a family, enjoyed extensive travel. Robert enjoyed traveling to warm and sunny beach locations and Traverse City. Additionally, he loved boating, a good martini, and regaling people with humorous stories.
He was loved by many and will be sorely missed. Robert enjoyed a long and interesting life, a great son, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
